Overview

The Isange One Stop Center (IOSC) at Ruhengeri Level Two Teaching Hospital is a specialized service dedicated to providing comprehensive, compassionate, and confidential support to survivors of Gender-Based Violence (GBV), child abuse, domestic violence, sexual violence, and other forms of abuse. The center operates as a safe and supportive environment where survivors can access all essential services under one roof, ensuring timely care, protection, and justice while preserving their dignity and human rights.

The primary mission of the Isange One Stop Center is to ensure that survivors receive immediate medical attention, psychosocial support, legal assistance, and protection services in a coordinated manner. The center is staffed by a multidisciplinary team comprising medical professionals, nurses, psychologists, social workers, police officers, and legal experts who work together to provide holistic care tailored to each survivor's needs.

One of the key services offered by the center is emergency medical care, including treatment of physical injuries, prevention of sexually transmitted infections (STIs), HIV post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP), emergency contraception, pregnancy-related care, forensic examinations, and collection of medical evidence required for legal proceedings. These services are provided promptly and professionally to minimize health complications and support the survivor's recovery process.

The center also offers psychological and psychosocial support services, recognizing that survivors often experience emotional trauma, anxiety, depression, fear, and social stigma. Through counseling, mental health assessments, therapy sessions, and ongoing emotional support, the Isange One Stop Center helps survivors regain confidence, rebuild their lives, and reintegrate into their families and communities.

In addition, the center provides legal and protection services by facilitating access to justice and ensuring the protection of survivors' rights. Collaboration with law enforcement agencies enables proper documentation of cases, investigation of offenses, and support throughout the judicial process. Social workers further assist survivors by connecting them with community resources, social protection programs, and follow-up services.

A distinctive feature of the Isange One Stop Center at Ruhengeri Level Two Teaching Hospital is the availability of a Safer Room, a secure and confidential space designed to protect vulnerable survivors who may be at immediate risk or require temporary shelter while receiving services. The Safer Room provides a calm, private, and protective environment where survivors can feel safe, supported, and respected during a difficult period of their recovery journey.

The center serves people of all ages and genders, including women, men, children, and other vulnerable individuals who have experienced violence or abuse. By integrating medical, psychosocial, legal, and protective services in one location, the Isange One Stop Center reduces barriers to care, improves coordination among service providers, and enhances outcomes for survivors.

Through its commitment to excellence, confidentiality, professionalism, and survivor-centered care, the Isange One Stop Center at Ruhengeri Level Two Teaching Hospital plays a vital role in promoting health, justice, protection, and human dignity while contributing to the prevention and response to gender-based violence and child abuse within the community and beyond.
