Today, 19^th June, 2023, the DG of Ruhengeri Hospital, Dr. MUHIRE Philbert, has received a Team from the Ministry of Health and AFD (Agence Française de Dévelopement), led by Dr.Corneille NTIHABOSE (HoD Clinical and Public Health Services).

The main purpose of their visit was a deep follow up on the Project of constructing a New Building of this hospital and hold a meeting focusing on the Services Relocation Plan during its construction in coming few years.

After the meeting, they visited various Departments in the hospital. 

Concerning its background history, the above hospital was built in 1939 during the Colonial Period, when it started its activities as a Public Clinic up to 1964.

In 1980’s, Ruhengeri Hospital was recognised as a National Referral Hospital and in 1999 as a District one, but continued to receive transfers from other neighbouring District Hospitals namely Shyira, Nemba, Gisenyi and Butaro.

Recently, from 11^th December, 2022, the same hospital was recognized by the Governmentof Rwanda as a Level Two Teaching Hospital, and, at the same time, still being the only District Hospital in that very touristic area.

The tour was supposed to go on visiting  other Sites in some Health Centers in the same Catchment (Muhoza, Nyange and Kinigi) and in Shyira District Hospitallocated in Nyabihu District, where some of the Services will be relocated.
